Sheffield Walkers Training Site

Terms and Conditions of Membership

Sheffield Walkers are a very friendly, sociable walking group who enjoy walking both for pleasure and for health. Friendship and group support are our core values.

Our Objectives

We actively encourage the pursuit of walking in the countryside around Sheffield, in the Peak District and beyond.

We observe the Countryside Code at all times.

We organise a variety of walks ranging from easy to strenuous on all types of terrain, both locally and in other areas.

We provide social activities for all Members to participate.

Membership

Membership of Sheffield Walkers is open to anyone interested in walking, but Members under the age of 18 must produce written parental consent to join the group.

All Members must have the level of fitness required to complete the walks they undertake, as the enjoyment and safety of all Members is of the utmost importance.

When walking or socialising with the group, all Members must respect each other and behave in a responsible way.

Guests of Members may attend walks on these same conditions.

Joining A Walk

All Members are responsible for their own conduct, safety and security whilst taking part on walks. Sheffield Walkers will NOT accept any responsibility or liability for any injury or loss that walkers experience whilst taking part on any walk.

An adult Member may be accompanied by a maximum of two persons under the age of 18. The adult Member must take full responsibility for them and ensure that they have the correct level of fitness to complete the walks they undertake.

Members bringing a dog on a walk will be responsible for the dog’s behaviour at all times. They must ensure that the dog is always on a short lead unless threatened by livestock, as stated in the Countryside Code. The Walk Leader may deem the walk to be unsuitable for dogs in which case, they will not be allowed to attend.

All Members must carry our Sheffield Walkers I.C.E. (In Case of Emergency) Card with them on walks. Members may store an electronic version on their Member Profile. This information will be shared in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

If you cannot make the walk at short notice or you are running late, please phone or text the walk leader.

Kit List

Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. For your own safety you should wear stout walking boots/shoes.

Please bring a waterproof coat/kagol, a hat, gloves and scarf appropriate to the weather conditions which can be kept in your rucksack and enough drink and food for the duration of the walk as often the longer walks are off the beaten track, and the only refreshment stop where you purchase drinks may be at the end of the walk. A head torch/hand torch is advisable for reduced daylight walks. Unless otherwise stated, all walks include a break for lunch.
